New Michael Caine feature to shoot in North Carolina

Michael Caine begins work on his new film in North Carolina in the next few days. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is the sequel to Journey to the Centre of the Earth and will be filming in Wilmington for around five months.

Aaron Syrett, Director of the North Carolina Film Office, said: “Through the diligent work of the NC Film Office, the Wilmington Regional Film Commission and our local film professionals, we were able to demonstrate to the production how fantastic and easy it is to make movies here with our locations and infrastructure.”

The production is thought to have been attracted to North Carolina’s EUE/Screen Gems Studios and specifically the water tank facilities. In addition, the state offers a 25% filming incentive. The project has already shot scenes on location in Hawaii and co-stars Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens and Josh Hutcherson.
