LA feature film location shooting drops 6.6% in Q3

Los Angeles saw a 6.6% drop in feature film location work during the third quarter of 2010 compared to the same period last year, according to new figures from FilmLA.

The organisation said the reduced figure is a result of California tax credits being halved in 2010 from the USD200 million figure that was available in 2009. The incentive programme was launched last year and releases USD100 million a year for five years, but a provision allowed two years’ worth of credits to be released in the first 12 months.

Paul Audley, President of FilmLA, said: “With the reduction in available incentive funds, we expected to see a decline in feature production this quarter. We hope the state will recognise the programme’s ability to create jobs and will give the programme renewed funding and life beyond its pending expiry.”

While feature film location shooting was reduced, some other production types increased in activity, with commercial location shoots in Los Angeles rising by nearly 22% year-on-year.
