UK inward investment film production down on 2009
UK-based feature film production dipped slightly in the first half of 2010 compared to the same period last year, according to new figures from the UK Film Council.
The opening six months of this year saw production on major projects including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and John Carter of Mars. The Council has put a positive spin on the reduced number of projects being filmed with budgets above UKP500,000.
John Woodward, Chief Executive of the UK Film Council, told the Independent: “Fewer films are being made, even with the studios. But they are compensating by the increased size of the ones that are being made.”
Nonetheless, spending on independent UK feature productions over UKP500,000 has fallen by UKP100 million since 2003.
