John Carter of Mars wraps Utah leg of shoot

Upcoming Disney/Pixar feature John Carter of Mars has wrapped the Utah leg of its shoot, according to Deseret News. It is the first Pixar co-production to involve live-action footage.

The production was lured to Utah in part by the state’s 20% tax credit scheme, from which it stood to gain nearly USD6 million.

Marshall Moore, Director of the Utah Film Commission, told the paper: “[The film] won’t be in theatres for more than a year because it has a 62-week post-production schedule because of all the computer animation. But it’s already building on a relationship that the incentive helped establish.”

A local campaign is underway to have the incentive scheme extended, as it is currently due to terminate next year. The plan is to keep it active long enough to attract a long-running TV series, which in the past have delivered USD1 million worth of revenue for every episode filmed.
