Success of Ralph Fiennes’ Coriolanus in Belgrade could lead to 15% Serbia filming rebate
The shoot of Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus has wrapped in Belgrade and the positive buzz could result in a national rebate launch, according to a Reuters report.
Coriolanus chose Belgrade as a shoot location as production costs were around 20% cheaper than in the Czech Republic and Hungary. They were up to 60% cheaper than in more established European cities like Paris and London.
Figures from the Serbian Film Commission suggest revenue from films and commercials shot in the country are expected to more than triple in 2010 compared to 2008. This figure could be significantly higher, however, if a national rebate is put into place.
With reference to Coriolanus, Nadica Momirov, State Secretary of the Serbian Ministry of Culture, told the news agency: "That is something very, very positive. It is very important for tourism and for the economy."
