History Channel mummy doc shoots in historical Egyptian sites

A new documentary exploring the history of ancient Egypt has been filmed in many of the country’s most famous historical sites.

Chasing Mummies: The Amazing Adventures of Dr Zahi Hawass will be broadcast on the History Channel in May. It follows the titular expert, who is the Secretary General of Egypt’s Supreme Council for Antiquities, as he traces the country’s ancient history.

The production shot for four months in Egypt in locations including Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, as well as the Valley of the Golden Mummies in Baharia Oasis and the Taposiris Magna Temple in Alexandria.

Mohammed Yousri, of production service company Video Cairo Sat, said: “On every shoot in or around a historic site the production crew must be accompanied by a Supreme Council of Antiquities inspector. It is his responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of the site.”

Video Cairo Sat worked with Los Angeles-based Greif Productions, which supplied the primary camera equipment, while a multinational crew worked on the shoot.

Mr Yousri added: “Video Cairo Sat has an established relationship as a production company in Egypt that facilitates and expedites all permission procedures with both the Cairo Press Center and the Supreme Council for Antiquities.”
