Game of Thrones to film in and around Belfast
Belfast and various locations throughout Northern Ireland are to be used for the production of dark fantasy adventure Game of Thrones, which could be the biggest TV production ever to film in Europe.
Major US cable network HBO has ordered nine episodes following a successful pilot last year. Production is expected to begin in June and will continue through to the end of the year, with Mark Addy, Sean Bean and Lena Headey among the principal cast.
The shoot may make use of some of the same locations as the pilot, which included Castle Ward and Tollymore Forest Park in County Down and Shane’s Castle in County Antrim. An expansive set was also built in Paint Hall Studio.
