Utah tempts smaller productions

The Governor's Office of Economic Development in Utah has approved a cash rebate of up to USD30,000 for RBX LLC to film Root Beer Christmas in the state.

The rebate is part of Utah's 'Under 1 Million' incentive programme which is designed to attract smaller productions to the state. It creates a cash rebate that cannot exceed 15% of the qualified dollars left in Utah as a result of the production.

The production is projected to last 98 days, and spending in Utah would total an estimated USD268,000. The Utah Film Commission approved it earlier in August.

Utah also offers the Motion Picture Incentive Fund which is a 20% post performance rebate and tax credit programme. The fund has USD10 million dollars for the 2010/2011 fiscal year 2010 with a cap of USD500,000 for each production for the cash rebate and USD7,793,700 available in the form of a refundable tax credit.

Root Beer Christmas is slated to wrap by the end of the year.
