The Portuguese Government have introduced the country’s first film incentive programme, in the form of a tax rebate. A rebate of up to 25% can be claimed on a minimum local spend of EUR1 million.
Portugal offers easy access to central European hubs and a warm, Mediterranean climate. With good local crew pools and strong production support, the country is a popular exotic location filming option.
Lisbon has been made more film- friendly since the government opened the Lisboa Film Commission in 2013. That year, feature productions spent EUR6 million in the capital.
Recent productions have included Terry George's The Promise and Terry Gilliam's long-delayed passion project, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.
Stink has become a regular visitor to Portugal. The company arranged hundreds of LED lights in a wood near Lisbon for an Ikea commercial, and also used an innovative 720 degree camera on an unmanned drone to promote Miru, a Japanese contact lens brand.
The great thing about each of these locations that director Martin Krejci selected was that they each had five or six different environments, so in the end the film had a wide variety of forest locations which was essential to enabling us to show such a wide range of IKEA LED lights.

The south of Portugal has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The hottest month is August with an average high of 28C. The coldest is January with an 8C average.
Summer temperatures are high but are eased by cooling sea breezes. The north is much wetter and cooler as it has a stronger Atlantic influence.
