San Francisco appeals to crews with Vendor Discount Programme
In a bid to attract more productions to film in the city, San Francisco has launched the Scene in San Francisco Vendor Discount Program.
Companies throughout the city are being encouraged to sign up to the scheme, which involves guaranteeing discounted services to visiting film crews and production companies.
Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco, said: “This is a win-win for San Francisco, with local businesses reaping the rewards of more business, and production companies and their employees rewarded with a discount on a variety of services while filming in our city.”
Susannah Greason Robbins, Executive Director of the San Francisco Film Commission, said: “Anything we can do to draw more productions to San Francisco will enhance the local economy in the long run by employing more local crew members and talent, as well as benefit local businesses by gaining access to the money productions spend while in town.”
City businesses are being encouraged to sign up to the scheme by 11th January 2011, whereupon they’ll be listed on the commission’s website. When crew members arrive in the city on a shoot they’ll be issued with cards that will enable them to use discounted services.
