Avengers to film on location in New Mexico
Marvel Studios’ new ensemble superhero feature The Avengers will film partly in New Mexico. The studio has previously filmed scenes there in 2010 for Thor.
Louis D’Esposito, Co-President of Marvel Studios, said: “We are incredibly excited to be returning to New Mexico with The Avengers. We had a terrific experience shooting portions of Thor in the Land of Enchantment and we are looking forward to making New Mexico even more of a home on our next production. The Avengers is our biggest film to date and New Mexico is the right place for us to shoot.”
Richard Berry, Mayor of Albuquerque, said: “We welcome The Avengers to Albuquerque and look forward to hosting Marvel Studios over the coming year. Clearly, Albuquerque remains a premiere city in the US for production.”
Eligible productions can claim a rebate of up to 25% filming in New Mexico. While The Avengers starts shooting in the next few months, 2011 also sees the theatrical release of Captain America: The First Avenger, which shot scenes in Manchester, doubling the city for New York.
