Tenerife national park chosen for Land Rover photo shoot
The Teide National Park in Tenerife has been chosen by Land Rover for the backgrounds of a new photo shoot marking the motor company’s sponsorship of the England rugby team. The Play Tough campaign features England rugby players in tough environments.
Cactus shows a player hanging onto a cactus in high wind, Hornets shows a player running from a swarm of the insects using their nest as a rugby ball and Rocks shows a player about to catch a falling boulder as though he were catching a ball on the pitch.
Nick Georghiou, the Photographer, said: “We shot in the volcanic high altitude areas of Tenerife - the locations were chosen to match the harsh and hostile environments needed by the brief. Other islands in the Canaries were considered but Tenerife was the best option because of its varied landscape options.”
Teide National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and restrictions include a ban on taking umbrellas into the park. This means finding shade can be a problem, so taking lots of water and hiking boots for the rough terrain is a good idea.
The production imported all the photographic equipment. Georghiou added: “Three crewmembers carried the main equipment using backpacks, while two other crewmembers manned the radios and location vehicles containing all the backup equipment.”
Concha Diaz, of the Tenerife Film Commission, said: “Teide is one of our most special locations - I think that at least half of our 89 productions [that filmed in Tenerife in 2010] went to Teide. Clash of the Titans chose Teide for their film in 2009 and Raquel Welch was there in the 60s with One Million Years BC.”
