Massachusetts location filming promoted in wake of The Social Network
Massachusetts is sending an official to Los Angeles this week to promote location filming in the East Coast state. Massachusetts has had a high-profile year with The Social Network, The Fighter and Ben Affleck’s Boston-set The Town drawing the eye.
Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts’ Economic Development Secretary, is spending two days meeting with some of the major studios and talent agencies in Los Angeles to promote the film industry in his state.
Kimberly Haberlin, a spokeswoman for Bialecki, said: “We want to bring more jobs, more business investment and more tourism dollars home to the Commonwealth. As with any growth industry, we need to send a clear signal to studios, producers and filmmakers that Massachusetts is open for business.”
Massachusetts offers a 25% tax credit to productions that spend either half their budget in the state or shoot at least half of the film there. Direct film spending has rocketed from USD72 million in 2006 – when the scheme was launched – to USD452 million.
