British Film Commission under Film London

The newly created British Film Commission (BFC) will operate under Film London in attracting inward investment film projects to the UK. Funding will be channelled to the new unit through the British Film Institute from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

To promote UK inward investment more effectively, the BFC will work closely with the national screen agencies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Experienced producer Iain Smith was recently announced as Chair of the Advisory Board.

With the appointment of Iain Smith Film London has set out a strong future for the British Film Commission. The BFC will remain one of the key pillars of a successful British film industry, bringing in vital inward investment.

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London, said: “Having the DCMS transfer responsibility of the BFC to Film London is a demonstration of how successful Film London has been as a regional agency. We aim to build on the current record levels of inward investment and with the existing team, a brilliantly qualified Chair and Advisory Board, we are in a fantastic position to maximise the potential within the UK.”

The BFC is to be based between the offices of Film London in central London and the US office in Los Angeles, which will continue to be headed by Andy Weltman.
