Atlanta film studio awarded public money to help with expansion

Public money will assist expansion plans for a studio in Atlanta, Georgia. EUE/Screen Gems Studio in the city’s Lakewood neighbourhood has been awarded nearly USD500,000 towards the USD3.3 million needed to develop two more sound stages.

Brian McGowan is President of Invest Atlanta, which voted to provide the public money, and spoke to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “We really are becoming Hollywood South with projects like this. The demand is there, and it’s really a great opportunity to bring in jobs.”

Georgia’s profile as a filming location has been rising steadily. The state has a base 20% filming tax credit and also hosts zombie TV drama The Walking Dead, which has become one of the biggest ratings hits in recent years and uses Atlanta Film Studios as a base.
