Actor and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone is set to return to Louisiana to film the fifth movie in his Rambo action franchise. It will be the first entry to shoot in the state, although Stallone himself has worked there extensively on the Expendables franchise and other action films.
Disney will film in a retrofitted warehouse space near Boston, Massachusetts, for its true-life rescue drama The Finest Hours. Set in 1952, the film will recount the tale of a dramatic Coast Guard rescue operation that was launched when oil tankers collided off Cape Cod.
David Attenborough is set to film a new documentary for the BBC about Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Atlantic Productions will produce David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef, which will mark the presenter’s return to the Reef he first visited for a documentary series in 1957.
Filming will take place in Cheshire for the ITV Studios World War II drama series Home Fires, adapted from a novel by Julie Summers. Cheshire, in north-west England, has also recently hosted Channel 4 historical drama The Mill, following the lives of workers in the mid-19th Century.
Upcoming superhero sequel X-Men: Apocalypse will film on location in Montreal, Canada, the same place chosen by its massively successful predecessor X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s likely to film at the same studio facility, Mel’s Cite du Cinema.
Louisiana remains confident that it will still have the edge when California boosts its filming incentives next year. The southern state has a 30% uncapped filming incentive and has recently doubled for California for features including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
DreamWorks is preparing to shoot historical drama The Light Between Oceans on location in New Zealand. The movie will feature Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz as a couple on a remote Australian island after World War I who adopt an infant they find in a washed-up boat.
Beer brand Bud Light has taken over the main street of a town in the US state of Colorado for a controversial new commercial campaign. Crested Butte will become ‘Whatever, USA’ for the weekend and the campaign will fly in a thousand young adult competition winners for a party in the town.
