Black Hangar Studios offers new filming stage and water tank near London
A new studio just outside London has officially opened, offering another option for productions planning a UK shoot. Black Hangar Studios lies next to Lasham Airfield in Hampshire and offers a 30,000 square-foot stage, as well as a sizeable water tank, all within a 90-minute drive of central London.
The studio has been set up by Simon Lamont and Digby Milner, who between them have decades of film industry experience. Lamont worked as an Art Director on projects including Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Casino Royale, while Milner is a special effects expert whose CV includes four Harry Potter films and the first Star Wars prequel.
We’re not setting out to compete with the likes of Pinewood and Leavesden. Rather, we’re thinking of ourselves as a flexible overflow studio.

Lamont comments: “We have a lot of experience and we have a lot of contacts at the bigger UK studios. We’re not setting out to compete with the likes of Pinewood and Leavesden. Rather, we’re thinking of ourselves as a flexible overflow studio. If the facilities a production needs are booked up at one of the majors, we can probably help out.”
Black Hangar will also offer training opportunities to filmmakers and crew trying to break into the industry.
