Caribbean film festival could boost regional location filming

The media launch for the CaribbeanTales Film Festival (CTFF), Symposium & Marketplace takes place today at the Island Inn Hotel in Barbados. The actual event runs from March 7th to 20th and this year will be only the second time it has been held in the Caribbean.

Frances-Anne Solomon, Chief Executive Officer of CaribbeanTales Worldwide Distribution and also an award-winning filmmaker, said: “The original CTFF held in Toronto for the last five years has been described as ‘bringing Caribbean films to the world’, while our Barbados event brings the film world to the Caribbean with a view to developing the regional audiovisual industry.”

The event will include workshops and screenings, while Caribbean content will be the primary focus of the marketplace and symposium. Barbados itself offers a lot of choice for location filming and support is available from the local Department of Tourism, but equipment often has to be imported from production hubs like Miami.
