Estonia’s brand new cash rebate programme is now in operation and ready to receive applications for 2016. The incentive offers a competitive cash rebate of up to 30%, with a varying required minimum spend such as the EUR1 million set for feature films and the EUR2 million set for full-length animated films.
The Vancouver Island South (VIS) Film and Media Commission (also known as the Greater Victoria Film Commission), has had its funding cut after the city’s councillors voted on an alteration to the Strategic Planning Grant policy currently in place.
In an effort to attract international productions the Eastern-European country of Georgia is set to introduce a brand new 20% cash rebate in 2016, with an additional two to five percent available for productions that include certain aspects of Georgia. The qualifying minimum expenditure for the rebate will be set at roughly GEL723,000 (USD300,000).
The Moroccan Government has approved a 20% cash rebate for international productions, set to be implemented March 31st 2016 as part of a bill known as the 2016 Finance Law. The required minimum expenditure for the rebate will be MAD20 million (USD1 million) and will cover a production for at least 18 days.
The Florida Film and Entertainment Industry Financial Incentive Programme will come to an end July 1st 2016 if legislators decide not to amend or renew it. In an attempt to retain a system of incentives within Florida, non-profit organisation Film Florida has presented a plan to change the programme and extend it past the 2016 deadline.
The mayor of Santa Fe, Javier Gonzales has expressed his interest in developing a film commission for the capital of New Mexico in a bid to draw the attention of high budget productions. According to Gonzales it would take an estimated USD50,000 to establish a new film commission.
An additional tax rebate of 10% will be available for any film, TV, and commercials productions that shoot in Greater Savannah from January 1st 2016 onwards.
In an effort to boost its already expanding film industry, Chinese officials are currently working on a draft of a new law to introduce new strategies of film regulation.
