Los Angeles saw a large increase in feature film production in the first quarter of 2014, compared to the same period last year, according to FilmLA. Commercial filming saw a small increase but TV production saw an overall decline.
Origin Pictures filmed the BBC’s adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel Jamaica Inn mostly in Yorkshire in northern England. Set in Cornwall, south-west England, in 1821, Jamaica Inn tells the story of a young woman who becomes embroiled with smugglers on the Cornish coast.
Discovery Channel is set to film nearly a week of live TV broadcasts from Mount Everest’s Base Camp in the Himalayas. The programming will also follow climber Joby Ogwyn as he makes his way to the peak, before leaping from the summit in a wing suit fitted with onboard cameras.
Period political feature Suffragette has become the first movie to film on location in the Houses of Parliament in central London. The film tells a fictional story against the backdrop of the Suffragettes’ campaign to secure the vote for women in the early 20th Century.
Mammoth Screen will film new period drama Poldark on location in Bristol and Cornwall in south-west England for the BBC. Company Pictures recently filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios for Channel 4’s period miniseries New Worlds.
Cable channel TNT will film drama series The Librarians on location in Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. The miniseries will follow on from a successful TV movie franchise in the vein of Indiana Jones that follows an ancient organisation of librarians who recover historical artefacts.
Filming has started on location in Prague for the second season of the BBC’s adventure series The Musketeers. As with the first series, the drama is doubling the Czech Republic for 17th Century Paris in a story inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel.
The Governor of New York Andrew M Cuomo has called for long-running chat programme the Late Show to continue filming on location in New York City when current host David Letterman retires in 2015. Comedian and satirist Stephen Colbert is set to take over hosting duties.
