Epic new TV drama Outlander will spend the next few weeks filming on location at Doune Castle in central Scotland. The castle is 600 years old and has been used as a filming location before, most famously for the feature comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail in the mid-1970s.
Domestic terrorism drama Homeland has been greenlit for a fourth season and will continue filming on location in North Carolina. The state doubles for Washington, DC, in the show that was first attracted to the region partly by the 25% refundable filming tax credit.
Dolphin Tale 2 has started filming on location at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in the city of Clearwater on Florida’s west coast. The movie is a sequel to the original family drama Dolphin Tale, which was a huge success in 2011.
Actor Michael Fassbender is filming new western Slow West on location in New Zealand, doubling the country for 19th Century Colorado. Shooting is taking place in the town of Twizel in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island.
Chris Hemsworth, star of new Marvel sequel Thor: The Dark World, has praised the UK’s location filming opportunities. The movie shot mostly at Shepperton Studios and on location in and around London, marking a production shift for Marvel.
New pirate TV drama Crossbones will film on location in Puerto Rico in the north-eastern Caribbean. The NBC production will star John Malkovich as infamous 18th Century pirate Blackbeard and will spend millions locally.
Studio development in Scotland is set to benefit from a GBP2 million loan fund announced by the Scottish government. The money will be channelled into production development for movies like Sunshine on Leith, as well as plans to establish a large-scale dedicated studio facility in the country.
The BBC’s zombie drama In The Flesh has started filming a second series in north-west England. Continuing from a three-part opening run, the show is set in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse as the undead are treated for ‘Partially Deceased Syndrome’ and reintegrated into society.
