Construction has begun on Park City Film Studios near Salt Lake City in Utah with a ground-breaking ceremony. Over the course of a staged development, the studio will eventually offer a main 45,000-square-foot sound stage and a smaller divisible 15,000-square-foot stage among its facilities.
A production deal has been agreed between the BBC and The Weinstein Company on a new TV production of the epic Tolstoy novel War and Peace. First published in 1869, the book is set in early 19th Century Russia but is likely to be filmed on location in the UK.
New Anglo-French murder mystery The Tunnel filmed on location throughout East Kent in the UK. Adapted from Scandinavian murder mystery series The Bridge, the story begins with a body found midway through the Channel Tunnel.
Leo Carrillo State Park near Los Angeles on the Pacific Coast Highway is celebrating 60 years as a popular California filming location. The park’s beach has hosted a long list of film productions and is named after Leo Carrillo, co-star of classic 50s TV show The Cisco Kid.
Dubai is assessing the benefits of hosting location filming for Shah Rukh Khan’s feature Happy New Year, which recently became the first movie to shoot almost entirely in the emirate city. Figures from the Dubai Film and TV Commission suggest the production spent USD5 million locally.
New international sitcom Brooklyn Taxi has started filming on location in New York. Based on a French-language movie called Taxi that filmed in Marseille in the late 90s, the new show is the first foreign production to qualify for New York’s generous filming incentive programme.
Kiefer Sutherland will film a miniseries continuation of his hit action drama 24 on location in London. The regular 24 series ended in 2010 but Live Another Day will see the return of Jack Bauer and will be filmed in the coming months for broadcast in summer 2014.
Kevin Macdonald filmed his new feature How I Live Now on location in Wales with rising star Saoirse Ronan. Adapted from a novel by Meg Rosoff, the film tells the story of a New York teen sent to live with cousins in the English countryside as a global conflict erupts.
