Shooting for the fifth season of HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones has had an instant impact on film tourism in the town of Osuna in southern Spain. Servicing for the shoot has helped boost the town and an influx of fans has been an added benefit.
Work has started on the Calgary Film Centre studio in Alberta, Canada, with a groundbreaking ceremony. The USD 20 million complex will eventually offer more than 80,000 sq ft of production facilities and could help attract more shoots on the scale of the recent Fargo miniseries.
Bollywood movie Baby has doubled Abu Dhabi for the streets of Istanbul for pick-up filming. Star Akshay Kumar filmed scenes in the emirate city in September, but the production returned for additional shooting for the upcoming thriller, mostly for scenes set in a surveillance van.

Sam Worthington’s new film, the assassin thriller Hunter’s Prayer, is set to double Harrogate in North Yorkshire for the streets of Switzerland. Filming locations across Yorkshire in northern England will double for mainland Europe for the story of an assassin on the run.
Authorities in Savannah, Georgia, have appointed a veteran filmmaker to promote the city as a key US movie location. Savannah recently hosted Channing Tatum’s male-stripper drama Magic Mike XXL and Ralph Singleton will work to continue boosting the city’s filmmaking profile.
Marvel and ABC are shooting new TV series Agent Carter in Los Angeles. The drama will be set in 1946 and follows the adventures of Hayley Atwell’s Agent Peggy Carter after the events of Marvel’s 2011 superhero movie Captain America: The First Avenger, where Carter first appeared.
Filmmaker Roman Coppola will headline this year’s Ciclope International Festival of Craft in Berlin. Ciclope recognises the craft of storytelling in international audiovisual production and this year’s event takes place on 6 and 7 November. The Location Guide is a media partner of the event.
