Film set recycling company Drèsd has opened a new base at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol in south-west England. The company specialises in recycling sets from film and TV productions, and the development marks the firm’s first move beyond the south-east of England.
The long-running US crime drama NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) starts filming its spinoff series NCIS: New Orleans on location in Louisiana this week. Special episodes were shot in New Orleans earlier this year as a pilot of sorts, but much of the studio work was filmed in California.
A movie entitled Race, based on the story of black Olympic legend Jesse Owens, will film on location in Montreal and Berlin. Owens famously won four gold medals at the Berlin Olympics in 1936, challenging Hitler’s notion of Aryan supremacy three years before World War II.
Crime miniseries The Killing Pool is set to film on location in Liverpool in north-west England. The drama was announced at the Dream Factory event as part of the International Festival for Business in Liverpool and adds to a list of the city’s production credits that include Foyle’s War.
Television filming in Los Angeles rose more than 30% over the past three months, but FilmLA said the figure should be seen in a broader context. The organisation said the boost was down to “production schedule shifts” and should not distract from the challenge of LA’s long-term filming decline.
Upcoming crime drama Backstrom filmed in Vancouver, doubling the city for Portland, Oregon. The show features US comedy star Rainn Wilson in his first dramatic role as a disgruntled detective in the vein of Gregory House. It’s based on a Swedish book series by writer Leif GW Persson.
A second series of Channel 4’s comedy series The Mimic filmed on location at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol. The show follows the everyday trials and tribulations of a maintenance man who happens to be a gifted mimic.
Ben Kingsley is set to star in Spike TV’s 'event' series Tut, which will film on location in Morocco and Canada. Kingsley will in fact play the Grand Vizier to King Tutankhamen, among the most famous of the ancient Egyptian kings since the discovery of his tomb in the 1920s.
