Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Rises to film partly on location in Pittsburgh

Location filming rumours have been flying around for months, but Christopher Nolan has now confirmed that The Dark Knight Rises will spend several weeks filming in Pittsburgh. The production will be Nolan’s last Batman film as director.

Nolan said: “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. We have been able to find everything we were looking for here and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final instalment of Batman.”

Luke Ravenstahl, Mayor of Pittsburgh, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming the Batman film to Pittsburgh, and eager for the economic impact that our city will experience. This is another example of the growing film industry in our community and we will be rolling out the red carpet for them.”

Pennsylvania offers a 25% filming tax credit to productions that spend at least 60% of their budgets in-state. Around 200 film and TV projects have benefitted from the scheme since 2007. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight used Chicago as Gotham City.
