Czech Republic launches filming rebate of up to 20%
The Czech Republic has today launched a new filming rebate of up to 20%. It’s designed to make a Czech shoot more economically viable for international productions as well as local Czech projects.
Ludmila Claussova, of the Czech Film Commission, said: “This allows us to compete more effectively with regional competition and again puts the Czech Republic and Prague back on the production map. It will encourage the international industry to come back. The interest has always been there, but the lack of a financial incentive has been a problem.”
Among the various qualifying criteria, feature films will have to spend at least USD700,000 in the country to qualify for the rebate, while TV projects will have to spend at least USD470,000. The scheme will have a fund of just under USD20 million for 2010 and this is expected to remain steady or increase in the coming years.
