DFI-funded The Reluctant Fundamentalist filming on location across the globe

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, a feature funded by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), has kicked off filming in locations in the US, Istanbul, Pakistan and India. It follows a young Pakistani man who studies at Princeton before his perceptions of the US are changed after 9/11.

Mohsin Hamid wrote the original novel: “Right now in Pakistan there is a feeling of intense isolation. So this film means a great deal to me - it is a rare case of artistic collaboration between Pakistanis, Americans, and Indians.”

Mira Nair is directing the film: “I am inspired to make a contemporary film about Pakistan, especially in this day and age when the perceived schism between Islamists and the Western world becomes more pronounced each day.”

Nair’s feature biopic Amelia, which told the story of aviator Amelia Earhart, opened the first Doha Tribeca Film Festival in 2009. This year’s festival starts on 25th October and will feature the world premiere of epic feature Black Gold, which filmed second-unit battle scenes in Qatar earlier this year.
