Dolphin Tale prompts Florida to call for higher caps on filming tax credits
The filming industries in Florida will call for higher caps on state-wide filming credits in the opening weeks of 2012. This year Transformers: Dark of the Moon showcased the Kennedy Space Center and the family-oriented Dolphin Tale was a big hit too.
A networking event was held in Florida’s Brevard County recently to lobby for the extension of the existing incentives programme past 2015. The state’s also looking to attract more TV productions, as these have a longer-term economic impact.
That doesn’t mean we’re not still going after movies, but the best value is episodic television production.

Jennifer Pennypacker is President of Film Florida and spoke to FloridaToday.com: “That doesn’t mean we’re not still going after movies, but the best value is episodic television production. The incentive is to create jobs, and television creates the best opportunity.”
The Transformers sequel pumped more than USD10 million into the Brevard County economy, while St Petersburg/Clearwater benefitted to the tune of nearly USD20 million when it hosted the Dolphin Tale shoot.
