Dubai Film and TV Commission officially launched in United Arab Emirates

The Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) has been officially launched in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Based in Dubai Media City, the organisation will promote the city as an international filming location two years after hosting Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Jamal Al Sharif is Chair of DFTC: “Dubai has always been a popular place for film and commercial makers to shoot thanks to its range of locations and sophisticated infrastructure."

He adds: “The number of productions has grown year on year and we have already seen an 8% increase in 2012 compared with 2011, on top of that, production budgets have risen steadily in the past year.”

Dubai still faces a challenge appealing internationally due to its lack of formal filming incentives. Abu Dhabi, in central UAE, launched a 30% filming incentive earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
