Film Location Austria to deliver filmmakers up to 25% of eligible expenses
The newly-launched Film Location Austria scheme will reward filmmakers with up to 25% of their eligible production expenses. Productions will need to spend at least 25% of their total budget within Austria in order to qualify. In addition a cultural test will ensure the country benefits from the project technically and creatively.
Elisabeth Birgmayer, Marketing Manager at Location Austria, said: “We’ve finally got approval from the European Commission and the scheme will support feature films and feature documentaries. Production companies can apply for funding now. Attracting more international productions is one of the goals.”
A budget of EUR20 million has been made available to fund the scheme until the end of 2012. The country has hosted several high-profile productions in recent years, including Quantum of Solace and Knight and Day.
Austria is the latest European country to offer an incentive in a bid to boost production. It will be looking to compete with nations such as Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic, each of which has recently launched a new scheme.
