Film London and Rio Film Commission sign agreement in Cannes
Film London and the Rio Film Commission have agreed at the Cannes Film Festival to share advice and ideas about how best to attract international productions to the respective cities. The agreement will focus partly on how to benefit from the Olympics.
The two cities will look at the logistics of filming for the Games and how media can deliver benefits from a tourism point of view. Rio will be hosting the Olympics in 2016, so the city will be eager to learn from London’s experiences. But the agreement will apply beyond the Olympics as well, sharing ideas on how to maximise each city’s appeal as a filming location.
We have seen previous city to city agreements with Mumbai and Ile de France generating real results – boosting production and the exchange of talent and expertise.
David Parfitt, Chair, Film London
David Parfitt, Chair of Film London said: “We have seen previous city to city agreements with Mumbai and Ile de France generating real results – boosting production and the exchange of talent and expertise – so feel confident that by forging new and innovative partnerships, such as this one, we can continue to build on our success to date.”
Steve Solot, President of Filme Rio - Rio Film Commission said: “For Rio de Janeiro, city and state, the importance of the agreement with Film London serves to reinforce the recent international recognition of Rio as a regional hub for audiovisual production for diverse production and settings.”
The agreement is also intended to encourage more co-productions between London and Rio over the coming years.
