Filming in Athens
Greece has attracted a lot of attention recently as a result of its financial woes, but that shouldn’t discourage filmmakers looking for great filming locations. The capital city Athens lies on the coast of the Aegean Sea in the Mediterranean, in the south-east of the country.
The city is part of Greece’s Attica region and offers a rich history dating back thousands of years. Classical architecture rests alongside a bustling cosmopolitan metropolis and offers a sub-tropical Mediterranean climate that’s also likely to be a bonus for filmmakers.
Filming support comes from a few sources. The Hellenic Film Commission is working hard to make locations across the region more film-friendly. In addition, the country’s tax shelter system gives people taxable in Greece who are working outside the audiovisual industry the chance to recoup up to 40% of their relevant investment as a tax deduction.
