Filming incentive prompts Teen Wolf TV drama to relocate to California
Television drama Teen Wolf has relocated to Los Angeles to take advantage of newly-available funds in California’s state filming incentive. The show filmed its first two seasons in Atlanta – using Georgia’s incentive support – after it was put on the waiting list for California’s tax credit.
Atlanta was doubling for Northern California, but then a few months ago the show finally got approval for just over USD10 million in tax credits to film in Los Angeles. With many of the producers also being based on the West Coast, the production left Georgia and has built sets and production offices in a California warehouse.
Joe Genier is an Executive Producer on the show and spoke to the LA Times: “We got lucky. It was a major sigh of relief for us. The story is set in Northern California and we always wanted to film here, but financially it didn't really make sense until a tax credit could come into play.”
Teen Wolf will be filming roughly three of every eight shoot days on location, with the rest on their indoor sets. The show employs more than 300 people and will spend USD60 million locally through the course of its current season.
