Filming on location at Duns Castle in Scotland
Duns Castle and the Estate dates back to the 13th Century and lies in parkland in south-east Scotland. Surrounding gardens offer long views of the castle that have been used for period dramas like Mrs Brown, as well as for commercial shoots.
Carved wood and plasterwork are strong features of the interior and the furnishings date from the 17th Century onwards. The house is south-facing and one of the stand-out interior features is the large dining room with ten-foot-thick alcoves.
Heather Gibson is the castle’s administrator: “We do all our catering in-house and we have plenty of parking and toilet facilities. Production crews are welcome to stay within the castle and also our seven holiday cottages on the estate.
We offer stunning indoor locations and outdoor locations round our lakes and nature reserve. The castle is still a family home, remaining in the Hay family.
Heather Gibson, Duns Castle
“We offer stunning indoor locations and outdoor locations round our lakes and nature reserve. The castle is still a family home, remaining in the Hay family. Film crews are able to use the castle and grounds to their hearts content to provide unbeatable backdrops to their production.
“We can provide contact details for local vendors wherever possible and we have our own in-house bag-piper and florist.”
The Hay family owns Duns Castle, but Ms Gibson is usually the first port of call for filming inquiries.
