  • Picture Tree is looking for documentary filmmakers to do fixing in each of the following territories – U.K, France, Indonesia and Kenya. We are not specific on cities on rural areas. It’s for an international TV commercial campaign I will be directing . The candidate will only fix in their own country and must be experienced and in touch with local news stories on the ground, specifically around inspirational, human-interest stories that has not been publicized too widely. Applicant must submit a CV with a minimum of 4 years work experience and be available from 24 January 2016 to 6 February 2016.

    Detailed brief.

Casting for a international shoe polish brand

During this campaign, we’ll produce five, two-minute, documentary commercials telling people’s stories in the UK, France, Kenya, Indonesia and South Africa.

We’re looking for stories of people that have a sense of pride, dignity and passion for who they are, their abilities and what they have accomplished. This is not pride in an arrogant sense, it is people with self-respect and integrity, a humble, modest faith in themselves and what they do. We are looking for a variety of people – young, old, tall and short, both genders and all races.
Their story is the most important. There must be something unique, unexpected and non-traditional about their story, slightly outside the mainstream. This is what makes a story interesting.
At the same time, the character must be relatable, and every-man or every-woman. We want stories that generate empathy, and characters that are endearing. The characters must have a sense of authenticity, people who are comfortable with their flaws, faults and limitations. It will be great if they can have a sense of humor or be witty and fun. We want people who are courageous and passionate, with big generous hearts and warm personalities.
It will be great if the story is inspirational, the underdog, someone who is rising against the odds, who values others, makes a difference, or chases a higher dream. Whatever the character does, or has achieved, must not hinge too much on what happened in the past.
We must be able to film it today, as it happens.

Have a look at these two adverts for ‘Shredded Wheat’ and ‘Internet.org’. This will give you the perfect idea of what we are looking for:

    Hello,

I would like to recommend Lameck for your job in Kenya. I’ve worked with him for two weeks from december 25th 2015 to january 9th 2016.

As a documentary photographer, i had choose to work on topics such as gangs and illegal brewery but also on positive and aspirations stories in Nairobi. If the gangs and brewery part required some organisation long before i came, other stories i asked about on daily basis (female football association, former convict getting his life straight, amputee olympic runner, small business owner, etc) were not on schedule, and Lameck managed to get all of the stories we talked about, sometimes in less than few hours, worst case it was a 2 day wait to get an interview.

Shooting pictures and record sound was possible each and every time. He nows Nairobi like his pocket, we were crossing people he knew on daily basis in several point of the city.

A very skilled man for outstanding work. Worth the fees. I will definitely work with him again.

If you wish more informations, feel free to contact me. Also if you need people in France, tell me about what you are looking for, i may know photographer who are working on such topics.
