Hello Mr. Martin,
The D.R. has experienced and explosion in film production over the past 6 years. Not only are we shooting over 7 local films per year, but many foreign films are being shot here also. Films like Miami Vice, The Good Shepherd, The Lost City, The Feast of the Goat and Sugar, just to name a few, have been shot here. The production of these films, which have used local crews, demonstrate the existence of qualified technicians at all levels, and have led to the establishment of rental equipment houses which can handle any film production. There are also two studios in the Capital, Santo Domingo, and many locations around the country which have been used by foreign filmmakers as settings for films set in Africa, Cuba, Vietnam, etc. But more importantly, the existence of a growing industry has led the government to take measures in order to protect and nourish local and foreign film production. Prove of this is the establishment, in 2004, of the National Film Office which acts as a Film Commission and the introduction, by the President, Dr. Leonel Fernandez, of the National Film Law which as been approved by the Senate this past November.
