I have a client who will be shooting in real snow and we are trying to put together a list of countries worldwide and their corresponding snow season (The snow would need to be below tree line if possible)
any ideas on how I would collate this information?
    thanks
    fi

    Hi,

In France you can find snow under tree line approximately from beginning of december. I can recommend very nice locations in the pyrennes mountains or in the alps if you wish so.

    Hi Fi!

There’s lots of snow in Norway, and we have a web site where you can compile snow data, looking into historical snow depths for specific time periods and regions and so forth: http://senorge.no/mappage.aspx

Don’t know if there is an international version of this – would certainly be useful (someone?)!

In Western Norway snow season runs from November/December – April, but longer in higher altitudes (3000 feet).

Snow Worldwide…province of Quebec in Canada is without a doubt a winter/snow destination from November to end of March…. 80 to 300 inches of snow in some northern Quebec regions per season….:-)

As far as Tree lines is just of matter of type, color, height, etc. etc, Quebec has it all…

    Some winter locations photos at:

Some incredible landscapes in Quebec at:

P/S the Quebec Film Commission has recently revised its incentives and is offering more then ever on foreign productions in Quebec.

    Hi Fiona,
New Zealand’s Winter runs from mid June through until late August at which time we often have snow below the tree line – See attached photos.
Our Spring runs from September through to early / mid November, we currently have plenty of snow here in the lower South Island and central North Island but at this time of the year we couldn’t guarantee that it would be below the tree line!
If you’d like any additional information or photographs please feel free to contact us.

Whistler is extremely film friendly with the season starting mid November through until early April.

I’ve also attached some photographs from a town called Smithers, again in Northern BC when I was filming there in January 2011.
