  • I am a Location Manager working in London and am about to start very preliminary pre-production on a film to shoot in October and I’m looking for somewhere (anywhere!) where we can get guaranteed snow in mid-October. It doesn’t need to be metres deep, but something more than a “light dusting” would be good. The budget won’t stretch to going to deepest Siberia and wherever we go there must be a good film industry infrastructure. Any suggestions would be great. Please email me at andrew@adlocations.co.uk.
    Thanks!

    Hi there!

In Western Norway we have over 100 glaciers, including Northern Europe’s biggest glacier. Several of them are film-friendly, with paved road access and villages / hotels within a 20 minutes drive. And based in Bergen, Norway we are just 1h45min from London airports.

Mid/late October is a bit early for snow in the lowlands, but there will be snow in most of our mountain areas.

Have a look at http://www.snowlocation.com for a look at some of our options, and please get in touch with more details!

    Hi Andrew
We are based in Verbier Switzerland, you can easily find snow at high altitudes and on glaciers in the Alps in October. We can’t necessarily guarantee snow in towns/villages although it could be possible. Would you like to send over your location brief and I will see what we can propose.
    Kind regards

Chile has snow in October. You can find snow above treeline just 1 hour from Santiago, and below the treeline starting at about 400 kms South of the city. If you are interested, please send me a mail to juan@tpo.tv

Andrew, Sweden is the place to go. Northern Sweden has more snow than Norway and is north of Iceland. From London you only need to change plane ones to fly straight in to the arctic wonderland. And its real snow landscapes, not glaciers or mountaintops with a little bit of slush.

    Hi, Andrew,
Ukraine can be snowing in October – we expect cold autumn this year. Still, if you consider artificial snow, which will be costwise in terms of overall budgetwise ukrainian production, please let me know. If you could send specification of project, I will make a ballpark
    for you.

We are shooting snow Kyiv for BBC this September!

    Hi Andrew,
Tirol/Austria can offer 5 accessible glaciers above 3.000 m which will provide (fresh) snow in October – if needed more snow can be produced on location. For more information please visit http://www.cinetirol.com and/or http://www.tirolergletscher.com

Please get back to us for any further need like location service/scouting and production incentive – we will be happy to support and assist!

    Hi Andrew:
Canada might be a good alternative for you but you will have to go to Northern Ontario, Quebec or higher altitudes out west. In terms of Ontario, where I am from, you would probably have to be north of Thunder Bay to have a chance of snow. Mostly you are talking about higher altitude spaces to the north in Canada.
    Hope that helps!

Hi Andrew – good to hear you want to shoot in the beauty of snow clad landscapes!

North-Norway has what you need – and we do have great top-financing schemes.
