Visas and Filming permits

I need some advice on visas and filming permits for the following countries: Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines. Does anyone have experience of how long journalist visas and film permits take to secure for each country, which order do you apply for them and do you really need £1000 in your account to get into Thailand – even as a tourist? Is there any way of fast tracking these processes for each country? All knowledge gratefully received.

Hi Malaine,
To come to Indonesia you have to apply for journalist/filming visa. I think it will cost you around US$45 which will be good for 30 days. It will take about 4 weeks from application to granted.
After you have this visa, usually there is no problem to get film permit because Film Dept. that will grant you film permit is also the one who decide whether your visa will be approved or not. They will also decide whether their minder necessary to be on locations during your filming days. Will send you further detail by email.

Hi Malaine,

For a journalist shooting in the Philippines, just apply at least a week before in your country of origin for a media visa. You will then be required to submit your purpose, itinerary, equipment list and better if you have a local counterpart. At the embassy, they will also ask you to fill up the IPC forms and clip in a photo for your media card. Aside from the visa application fee, there will be a PhP 6400 fee for the IPC that you will pay when you get to Manila and claim your media card. Somebody from the tourism department will also assist you when you arrive and facilitate your clearance at the customs. If you are coming for a shoot as a team, it is imperative that you have a local tie up or fixer. Location permits depending on the area and requirement for shoot may take at least one week.

Hi Malaine

To get into Thailand you do not need to have 1,000 pounds in your pocket. not neccessary at all. To apply visas to get into Thailand. you can apply for tourist visas. because when you get into thailand.,you got to apply for film permits & working permits anyway.
