    New Zealand is a great location for frozen lakes and incredible winter landscapes. We have various location that could fit your brief from barren frozen lakes on top of mountains to frozen lakes in amazing valleys surrounded by trees – all that you can drive to.

    As Treza mentioned earlier, it’s not extremely likely that there will be vast snow fields in New Zealand in May, but we’ll certainly be getting close. I’ve the other locations are New Zealand for sure! I’ve loaded some images for your reference onto a dropbox link, you can see them here.

    You’ve made a good choice in considering New Zealand as your filming destination.
    September is right in the middle of our snow season and many productions travel to Queenstown for their winter car shoots and testing due to the accessibility and range of locations within a short distance. Queenstown is also a wonderful place to base your production due to great production services, an international airport and amazing hotels and restaurants.

    Greetings from New Zealand. If you think you may be able to travel a little bit further, New Zealand is the home of green rolling hills, clean waterways and stunning mountain backdrops.

    Queenstown New Zealand has the only snow/ice vehicle testing area in the southern hemisphere, perfect for car commercials. We’re having the best snow for many years right now!
    Queenstown has an international airport and the grounds are less than an hour away.

    Reel Locations is based in Queenstown in New Zealand’s South Island, and as Rob below has mentioned, June is on the early side for guaranteed good snow coverage in some locations, There are still plenty of options accessible by helicopter. Within a short heli flight from Queenstown there are many glaciers and high altitude mountain tops that have all year snow coverage.

    Certainly later on in June it would be more likely that you could drive to a selection of film friendly snow locations.
