Georgia extends its uncapped filming incentive programme
Georgia has extended its uncapped film and TV location filming incentive programme. Between June 2010 and June 2011 the state paid out some USD200 million in support to qualifying productions for a direct combined return of nearly USD700 million, so it has plenty of support.
The move sustains the existing 20% tax credit for productions spending at least USD500,000 in-state. Productions can also access an extra 10% by displaying Georgia’s peach logo in their credits to help boost local tourism, reports the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Extending the incentive could help further cement the South’s massive production appeal.
It shows there’s good support across the board in the House and Senate in maintaining the incentive. The changes are reasonable for everyone involved.

Craig Miller is a local producer and board member of the Georgia Production Partnership, and spoke to the outlet: “It shows there’s good support across the board in the House and Senate in maintaining the incentive. The changes are reasonable for everyone involved.”
While the incentive is likely to bolster Georgia financially, Atlanta Film Studios recently opened in Paulding County to provide filmmakers with a brand new shooting facility. Productions have access to two separate 20,000 ft sound stages 30,000 ft of mill space.
