Alexander Payne’s upcoming film Downsizing has now begun shooting on location in Western Norway and Lofoten. The production picks up in the Nordic State after previous shoots were completed in Omaha, Toronto and Los Angeles.

The upcoming film by Swedish Director Lisa Langseth (Hotel) Euphoria, will be shot on location in Bavaria. The film will star Alicia Vikander who has already worked with Langseth on a number of projects, alongside Eva Green and Charlotte Rampling, and will tell the story of two estranged sisters who come together when they decide to embark on a journey into the mountains.

After being nominated on six separate occasions, Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s survival epic The Revenant, which was filmed on location in Alberta and Tierra del Fuego.

Norway’s first formal programme for filming incentives is soon to be implemented, with information detailing what the system will offer having just been released. Previously the country only offered informal subsidies to regional projects but this is about to change.

Visual effects house Double Negative (Dneg) and Prime Focus World are to open a new facility in Mumbai. Dneg’s recent major productions have included Alex Garland’s Ex Machina, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and the Wachowski siblings’ Jupiter Ascending.

The Norwegian government has announced plans to launch a national filming incentive inspired by Iceland’s support programme. Details are set to be confirmed in the next few months for a launch sometime in 2016, but a reimbursement of 20% to 25% is reportedly being targeted.

Screenwriter Alex Garland filmed his directorial debut Ex Machina on location in Norway and at Pinewood Studios in the UK. The film tells the story of a young coder given the task of interacting with an artificially-intelligent female robot in a remote mountain retreat.
