The Alaskan location filming incentive has proved controversial, but the state has decided to keep it alive on a long-term basis. Over the next decade USD200 million will be channelled into the programme, with a series of changes designed to boost its appeal to feature projects like Big Miracle.
The historic city of Winchester in Hampshire, southern England, has doubled for 19th Century Paris in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Misérables. Today is the last day of a two-week shoot that’s focussed on areas around the city’s cathedral.
X-Men follow-up feature The Wolverine will film on location in Sydney, Australia, from August this year. The story is set in Japan, but the production will be based at Sydney’s Fox Studios, where previous feature X-Men Origins: Wolverine was also partly filmed.
California is taking steps to extend its film and TV location filming incentives, which would make USD100 million available annually through to fiscal year 2020. In the autumn of 2011 the programme was extended only to July 2013, a timeframe that was too short to appeal to many TV shows.

Marvel’s upcoming superhero sequel Iron Man 3 has announced it will film partly on location in China. Disney, Marvel’s parent company, has a co-production deal with Beijing-based DMG Entertainment. In the US the film will be based at EUE/Screen Gem Studios in North Carolina.
