Ron Howard’s new feature In the Heart of the Sea has been struck by flash-floods on location in the Canary Islands. Unseasonably heavy rain created torrents of water on the island of La Gomera, forcing a temporary halt on the movie that explores the origins of classic novel Moby Dick.
London-based production company Man+Hatchet filmed on location in an Estonian basketball stadium for a new animated commercial for well-being brand Withings. A hundred naked people were animated for the spot by taking 2,000 still photos from the stadium ceiling.
The UK government has opened up its filming incentive programme and has introduced support for visual effects. Chancellor George Osborne’s enhancements to the filming incentive included reducing the minimum production spend needed to access the tax credits.

Kaufman Astoria Studios in the New York City borough of Queens has opened a new street back lot. The new facility spans 34,800 square feet over a fully blocked-off and de-mapped stretch of the borough’s Astoria district and is the only outdoor lot in the city.
Stink filmed on location in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Marrakech in Morocco for a new spot for the FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in Marrakech from 11-21 December. The piece shows fans in cities around the world preparing to watch the competition in their homes and offices.
Comedy sequel The Inbetweeners Movie 2 will film scenes on location in Australia before moving back to the UK in January 2014. The first movie – made as a continuation from the hit school-set TV series – was the most successful British comedy in history.
Football feature Shooting for Socrates is filming on location in Northern Ireland and in Spain. Named for the legendary Brazilian footballer Socrates, the movie tells the story of the Northern Ireland team at the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico, which involved a clash with Brazil.
