Sci-fi feature Looper has benefitted from its status as a US-China co-production by becoming the first Hollywood film to open bigger in China than in America. Filmmaker Rian Johnson switched part of the story from a French to a Chinese setting so he could qualify as a co-production.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier will film partly on location in Ohio. Marvel previously recreated the streets of New York City in Cleveland for The Avengers. Ohio’s state filming incentive now has a richer film fund, making it more attractive for big-budget productions.

Marvel’s superhero sequel Iron Man 3 will be filming in Greater Fort Lauderdale near Miami, Florida, from October 2012 after several months spent in North Carolina. The shoot comes a year after Tom Cruise’s high-profile Rock of Ages recreated Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip in Miami.
New British comedy film The Wedding Video shot scenes on location at Manchester Airport in north-west England using a retired Trident aircraft. Based at the airport’s Runway Visitor Park, the plane was retired in 1985 after nearly 15 years of service.
Crew working on Marvel’s Iron Man 3 have had to get clearance from the US Department of Homeland Security to film at the Port of Wilmington in North Carolina. Special federal identification clearances are needed to visit the facility without having an official escort.
Filmmaker James Cameron is opening a joint venture in China to offer 3D filming technology. The new deal apparently doesn’t involve direct production at this stage, but it’s the latest development in Hollywood’s growing interest in the Chinese market.
Glasgow will host second-unit filming on the next in the Fast & Furious franchise in late August and early September 2012. The City Council confirmed the unit will be filming nights for the project - tentatively titled Fast 6 – and shooting will take place on Cadogan Street and Broomielaw.
