The BBC’s new period drama The Moonstone, starring John Thomson (Cold Feet) and Sarah Hadland (Miranda) has begun filming in North Yorkshire. The production will be conducting on location shoots at Thornton Watlass Hall, a Grade I listed Georgian country house that will serve the show’s 19th century period setting.
Loch Ness, a new drama commissioned by ITV will film at its namesake location and in the Scottish Highlands. Split into six episodes, the series will follow the lives of Detective Annie Redford and her family when a body is discovered by the Carn Mor mountain just as a human heart turns up on the shores of Loch Ness.
Principal photography has begun on the third instalment of Marvel Studios’ Thor series. Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as the titular demigod alongside Mark Ruffalo, whose portrayal of Bruce Banner will play a prominent role in the film.
In a bid to compete with other major locations and secure large scale international productions, New South Wales have introduced a USD20 million film fund. Made in NSW will aim to expand the film industry within the Australian territory by doubling the existing fund to an incredible USD40 million over the next two years.
Filming rates in Victoria, British Columbia have fallen significantly in 2016 when compared to the city’s popularity over the previous year. In 2016, only five film and television productions have shot on location in the capital, an incredibly low number when stacked against the total of 25 productions from 2015. There is still a chance that these numbers might increase before the end of the year but there are currently no productions slated to film throughout June and July.
The fourth season of BBC’s Sherlock will film on location in South Wales. While post-production work for the show has taken place in South Wales before, this will mark the first time that the series has ever filmed there. Previous locations to have featured on the show include London and Bristol.
Screen Yorkshire have launched a new programme to appeal to those who are interested in working in the film industry. The company are offering a four day intensive course to educate people and provide them with on-set experience, allowing them to make the transition into the professional industry.
The Vancouver Island South (VIS) Film and Media Commission (also known as the Greater Victoria Film Commission), has had its funding cut after the city’s councillors voted on an alteration to the Strategic Planning Grant policy currently in place.
