The new BBC series The Secret Agent, which aired its first episode on Sunday, was filmed on location in the streets of Edinburgh. Adapted from Joseph Conrad’s novel of the same name, the show stars Toby Jones (Dad’s Army) as Verloc, the owner of a 19th century sex shop who soon becomes embroiled in a plot of political espionage between Britain and Russia.
To provide television productions with more financial incentives for filming, the United Kingdom and South Africa have signed a co-production agreement to share their funding opportunities.
The adaptation of John le Carré’s crime novel Our Kind of Traitor was filmed in several European locations, much like the BBC’s recent adaptation of one of le Carré’s other novels, The Night Manager. The complete list of locations includes Marrakech, London, Finland, Switzerland and Paris.
Under the administration of ScreenWest, Western Australia will be getting its own regional film fund in the form of AUD15 million (USD12 million). The Western Australian Regional Film Fund will be available from July 1st 2016 and will only be distributed to productions that incur a yet to be specified minimum spend.
Hands of Stone, a biographical boxing drama about the life of Roberto Durán was shot on location in Panama. Directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz and starring Robert De Niro and Édgar Ramírez, the film will premiere May 16th at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 in the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
Location Manager and founder of the zlocationz Production Compmany, Martin Zillger has seen his fair share of high profile projects. Operating mainly out of Germany and Austria, Martin has recently worked on Amazon’s original series The Man in the High Castle and feature film Race starring Jason Sudeikis. The continuation of BBC’s The Hollow Crown series entitled, The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses was filmed on location in multiple areas throughout the UK. The production travelled to Wells Cathedral (Somerset), Ashridge Estate (Hertfordshire), Haddon Hall (Bakewell), Gloucester Cathedral (Gloucester), Berkeley Castle (Berkeley), The Great Hall (Winchester) and Alnwick Castle (Northumberland).
