Fiji may be a nation spread across hundreds of islands, over thousands of miles of ocean, but their concise and generous range of film incentives show they are focused on remaining competitive as a filming destination. This was reiterated in 2009 when the Fiji Audio Visual Commission (FAVC) increased their Tax Rebate Programme, aimed specifically at fully funded foreign productions, from 15% to 35%.

It went to the top of the US box office on its release (August 14 2009), making District 9 Sony/Tri-Star’s highest opening day for an R-rated August release, after 2007’s Superbad and last summer’s Pineapple Express. Award-winner Peter Jackson’s sci-fi movie, about aliens in South Africa, was 100% filmed in Gauteng and directed by local boy-made-good Neill Blomkamp.

BossaNovaFilms has announced the launch of a new division for the production of interactive projects. It will work in conjunction with the production company's already eastablished areas of advertising, cinema, TV, web content and branded content. A team of four, Alexandre Souza, Gabriel Laet, Guilherme Almeida and Paulo Perez, has joined BossaNova to run the operation.
