Having worked in numerous production related roles over the last 10 years, Eleni Fanariotou’s knowledge of the Greek film industry is vast. We spoke with Eleni to better understand what the country has to offer for location professionals and how the nation has coped with the crippling financial crisis.
After receiving three Academy Awards and three Golden Globes, The Revenant’s incredibly successful awards period continued this weekend at the Location Managers Guild International Awards, taking home the award for Outstanding Locations in a Period Film. Portions of the film were shot on location in Alberta, Canada but the production later moved to Tierra del Fuego in search of more snow.
In an effort to simplify the process of applying for and receiving the Abu Dhabi filming incentive, the programme will now be run solely by the Media Zone Authority company, Image Nation Abu Dhabi. Operation of the incentive was previously split between Image Nation and the SANAD Film Fund.
Serbia has introduced a brand new film incentive programme which will cover commercials alongside film and television productions, making it the first country in Eastern Europe to offer an official incentive for commercials. The country now offers a 20% cash rebate for productions filming on location, with this year’s deadline being set for September 30th.
Minnesota’s film incentive programme (also known as Snowbate) could have its funding partially removed under a proposal to scale back government spending on the state’s film industry. This proposal also asks that the Minnesota Film and Television Board be shut down, accumulating in an estimated saving of USD1.8 million.
The continuation of BBC’s The Hollow Crown series entitled, The Hollow Crown: The War of the Roses was filmed on location in multiple areas throughout the UK. The production travelled to Wells Cathedral (Somerset), Ashridge Estate (Hertfordshire), Haddon Hall (Bakewell), Gloucester Cathedral (Gloucester), Berkeley Castle (Berkeley), The Great Hall (Winchester) and Alnwick Castle (Northumberland).
Mumbai based Production Company, Joshua Tree Films has announced its very own short film competition entitled The Mssing Plot. Joshua Tree will provide all contestants with the same pre-filmed opening scene as filmmakers, both amateur and professional will be expected to make their own short film from that piece, regardless of what genre they choose.
Production Service Company PIG China, in collaboration with Advertising Agency Interone Beijing has filmed their latest commercial for BMW’s M4 coupé on location in Shanghai. The commercial sees the M4 driven around a test track in Shanghai as the driver narrowly avoids various obstacles on the track.
