2015 has proved to be a profitable year for Lithuania’s film industry, as the north European country has seen its highest number of international productions filming on location since its incentive programme was implemented in 2014.
The upcoming BBC drama The A Word is being filmed in Keswick and Coniston, both of which are located in the English Lake District. Filming began in October 2015 and will continue until an unspecified time in early 2016.
Governor to the state of New Jersey, Chris Christie has vetoed a proposed motion to install a new system of filming incentives within the state. In 2011 Christie similarly halted a USD420,000 tax credit made available for the first season of Jersey Shore, over concerns regarding the controversial content of the show.
After plans were announced in 2015 regarding Mayor Javier Gonzales’ intent to build a new film commission in Santa Fe, the City Council have agreed to move forward on the idea. The commission will be provided with an annual budget of USD50,000 and will open 6 to 12 months after Mayor Gonzales appoints its members of staff.
Estonia’s brand new cash rebate programme is now in operation and ready to receive applications for 2016. The incentive offers a competitive cash rebate of up to 30%, with a varying required minimum spend such as the EUR1 million set for feature films and the EUR2 million set for full-length animated films.
The film industry of Santa Clarita received a huge boost in 2015 as a record number of productions flocked to use the Californian city as a filming location. According to the Santa Clarita Film Office, 2015 held a total of 565 film permits and 1,372 location film days, an improvement of 13 and 2 percent over 2014 respectively.
The Vancouver Island South (VIS) Film and Media Commission (also known as the Greater Victoria Film Commission), has had its funding cut after the city’s councillors voted on an alteration to the Strategic Planning Grant policy currently in place.
